Wine culture, tradition and landscape are such an inherent part of Catalonia’s history that it has become a symbol of our identity. The Greek and Roman civilizations brought vine-growing to Catalonia. Since then, vines, vineyards, wineries and wines have been part of our culture.
Catalonia has twelve designations of origin, each of them with their own distinctive landscape, ranging from vineyards beside the Mediterranean Sea to others clinging to the mountain sides of the Pyrenees. Many Catalan wines currently feature on the most prestigious international wine lists.
Qualified Estate Wines (Vins de Finca Qualificada, QEW) are the epitome of the close tie between winemaking and the local area. For this reason, as part of the ambitious Horitzó2025 transformation process, INCAVI is allocating greater resources towards the QEW Project in order to improve the standing of Catalan wines in key markets around the world based on these unique wines.
More than 750 wineries, 57,000 hectares and 9,500 winegrowers, a productive front that looks towards the future and aims to build it responsibly.
