Barcelona is set to host a new edition of Barcelona Wine Week from February 3 to 5 at the Montjuïc venue of Fira Barcelona. The Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Food, through Prodeca and INCAVI, will participate with various promotional activities, including a Qualified Estate Wines stand, specialized lectures, roundtable discussions, and a trade mission with 25 U.S. professionals.
Trade Mission and International Buyer Visits
Prodeca has organized a trade mission bringing 30 key U.S. wine professionals, including importers, distributors, and retail operators, to Barcelona and Catalonia’s wine regions from February 3 to 7. The goal is to foster business meetings between Catalan DO wine producers and the American wine sector.
The program includes visits to exhibition stands, business meetings, exclusive tastings, and winery visits. A masterclass by sommelier Andrew Ashurst and a tasting session by Gemma Muray will highlight the diversity of Catalan wines. This initiative is part of the Taste the Difference (TTD.EU) project, co-managed by Prodeca and Unione Italiana Vini, to boost international visibility for Catalan wines.

Promotional Stand for Qualified Estate Wines
For the first time, Barcelona Wine Week will feature a dedicated space for Qualified Estate Wines, located near the main entrance and Catalan DO representatives. The stand will offer information sessions and small-group tastings led by sommelier and journalist Sílvia Culell.
Specialized Lectures & Wine Panels
INCAVI will organize two key sessions:
- “History and Uniqueness: Rediscovered Native Grape Varieties in Catalonia” (February 4, 18:00, Speakers’ Corner) – A tasting session guided by Sílvia Culell showcasing recently reintroduced indigenous varieties.
- “Identity, Sensory Profile, and Control: The Catalan Official Wine Tasting Panel Methodology” (February 5, 15:00, Sala Príncipe) – A discussion on standardized sensory analysis methods for Catalan DO wines.
Additionally, INCAVI experts will participate in two roundtable discussions addressing climate change adaptation and water management in viticulture.
About Qualified Estate Wines
Within a Denomination of Origin (DO), Qualified Estate Wines are produced in specific vineyards with distinct characteristics. They must meet stringent criteria, including a minimum 10-year history in a DO, controlled vineyard yields, and strict quality assessments. Currently, Catalonia boasts 19 certified references across six DOs.
Barcelona Wine Week 2025 reaffirms Catalonia’s commitment to wine excellence and international recognition, offering a prime platform for showcasing its rich winemaking heritage and innovation.
